Shatter Proof window coating

I'm looking for a USA based dealer/applicator of some kind of nice, strong window coating to help prevent breakins. I've seen what the guys at Lone Wolf Transglobal Expedition are using, but it can only be applied in the UK. Does anyong know of something like this in the USA that isn't too dark of a tint? I'd be ok with applying it myself or going to some place in the Puget Sound area.

Any tint shops that deal in Lumar or 3M products should be able to get you clear, non-tinted security film.

I was thinking about this stuff for the glass on my canopy - specifically the rear glass as a smash with a hammer and grabbing stuff is something I think about. Especially when the truck is parked by itself at some lake and I am miles away fishing.

Forgot to add in my 2 cents on this part: :cow:

I wouldn't put it on vehicle door windows because it not only makes it hard to get in, it makes it harder to get out. Those are made of shatter glass for a reason and would potentially cause issues in the event of an accident. Like you can't break out the glass if you go underwater or can't kick out the glass in case of an accident and fire (unless you have manual crank windows).

I could get in contact with the guys who did ours, to see if they will send out some of the film for you if you like. Don't quote me on this, but I believe, that you can apply the film to one side of the glass, and it will give you directional strength, ie. will not give way when struck from the outside, but will give way if struck from the inside. I know at least the theory works when the glass is used to stop bullets, but allow the occupants to fire back.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. I'd like to know if it can be kicked out from the inside. Not so much because of water (just how likely is that..really?....he said trying not to jinx himself) or fire (running biodiesel keeps that worry low) but just in a general sense. I have manual windows.

Hmmm....Or, if installed on the inside, could you leave a little tab in the corner and peel it off?

Nick, if you have time can you have someone from the place over yonder get a hold of me? I got a price from Shattergard and they are in Atlanta so it might be cheaper than the UK, but you never know.

Thanks Nick!

As long as I keep the 40" tires and the number sticker off the side of my truck.....I think I'll be ok. :)

I talked with the shattergard people and you can still kick out the side windows as you can the front windsheild. I'm also looking at profilon as an option.

USA Supplier

Hi,

We're looking in to the same thing for our vehicle. I found this company in the UK: POLYESTER CONVERTERS

They list a USA office at:

2478 Salem Place, Fullerton CA 92835
U.S.A.
e-mail: usa.office@psggroup.co.uk

I haven't spoken to them yet, but if you do, please let me know what you find out.

Apparently they have both clear and tinted versions in "security" and full "Bomb Proof" levels.

GOOD LUCK!

Jay.

We considered this when planning our expedition but opted for something with a more obvious deterrent value.

What you want (in my opinion) is something that will make a thief move on before even considering attempting a theft.

Here is what we did...

Bars on the inside of the doors to keep them from being opened even if the window is smashed.....

Heavy duty locks

Expanded Aluminum....

You may be able to see it in the window of the right hand photo above. Expanded aluminum is light weight, easy to work with, and easy to screw to the interior of windows. When you see it from the outside it looks absolutely impenetrable but in reality is not much of a defense.

Three years in Latin America and Africa with nothing stolen attests to the value of deterrent.

Happy travels
