Short trip in the Expedition Celica

This past weekend, we decided to take advantage of the amazing weather right now in the desert SW. No real plan at all, just knew we wanted to get out for the day. Breakfast at The Farm at South Mountain, stopped by Bass Pro Shop while heading across the 202 to the east valley, since niether of us had been there before. An hour and a half later, we got back on the highway to get out to Power Rd, turned north to get towards Lake Saguaro where we stopped for a picnic type snack break and to walk around the marina a bit. The drive along that road is to the lake is amazing, for the driving enthusiast, twisty, hilly and very scenic. Eventually we ended up at the trail head into the wash that comes down to Butcher Jones Cove.
Laura asked if I knew where it went to, Four Peaks road if we're lucky enough to find our way. It had been over 10 years since I had been on those trails. Once we started are way north, the soft sand made me a bit uneasy, but I figured we would be fine, as long as we kept moving. I didn't remember the wash being so sandy, for so long. I'm guessing I use to head up to the ridges where it was hard packed. The Celica keeps amazing me at just how capable it is off road. Sure enough, eventually we did end up on Four Peaks Rd, just guessing which way to go. I did have a little bit of help, a couple of motorcyles had passed us, so I just stepped it up a bit and followed them at a distance. The car was built more for roads like Four Peaks, hard back dirt, but apparently, sand isn't a problem either.
Unfortunately we forgot to bring a camera along with us, AGAIN... Monday morning I got on ebay and bought a camera I can dedicate to just leaving in the car from now on.

bummer no pics, but then again the best pics would have required someone outside the rally racer catching you spitting out sand :)
I really like your car and even more I like how you keep putting it to good use.

Thanks. I built it for playing, so I'm glad my GF likes the adventure of riding in it. Our next trip will likely be up to Camp Verde, to go fossil hunting along the river.

Right, just the 2wd/RWD version, same chassis as the Group B Celica, without the crazy turbo charged engine.
The rear axle started leaking a bit of oil out the driver's side backing plate the week after this trip. It took some time and running around to find this seal, but changing it out was much easier then I thought it would be. So, to make sure it was fixed we took it out for some short, rough dirt trailing outside of Cave Creek, success...
