Should I buy a 2008 FUSO 4x4?

I have a chance to buy a 2008 Fuso 4x4 for around 8k - 8.5k but I'm worried the ULSD might make this a no go. I live in Nevada and would like to travel down below Mexico. Besides the ULSD issue, are there other reasons to not go beyond the 2007 year? I think the general consensus is go no later than 2007 because of DPF issues, sensors, etc. Any help is much appreciated, I have to make a decision soon. Thanks!

I don't know for certain, but I believe the 2008 is pretty much a 2007 with enhanced emissions. Has the reliable 4.9 and manual transmission, but not sure about the potential issues with the emissions gear and how practical it would be to remove said gear for ex-US travel.

What does the DPF in is using the incorrect engine oil. It needs to meet low ash specification CJ-4 to reduce ash buildup in the DPF. Buying used there’s no telling what engine oil someone else has been using.

You might contact a nearby shop to see if there’s any type of on vehicle DPF testing that can be done.

Consider running the VIN with an insurance company. Sourcing insurance coverage on these trucks can be problematic, but not impossible. Seems underwriters don’t believe you when you tell them you purchased a commercial vehicle for personal use.

I was able to insure mine with Progressive, but it is now titled as a motorhome not a medium duty truck.

thats a great price.. if its in good shape then go for it. USLD is available in most of Baja.
