I'm open to ideas here, folks. I just got a subaru Outback, and it's my expo rig for now. Planning suspension, tires, storage, comms, etc. and I realize I haven't a damn clue about what to do for my water situation. I want to be able to have at least 15 gallons on hand for drinking, showering, etc.

I really don't know how or where to start. I want something that isn't permanently part of the vehicle, as eventually I intend to step into something more capable (full-size rig, jeep, land cruiser, etc.) and I want to just remove this and retrofit/install it in the new rig. I understand there are ways to interchange heat with the engine of the car, any thoughts on that? Is it not worth the trouble in my case? Electric options as well are out there, I'd like to explore that. I don't know how much I'm willing to spend on this just yet, I'm trying to figure that out through you guys.

So, without further ado, photos, build threads, tech specification sheets, etc. Whatever you have, inundate me and get me in the know!

ETA: crap, wrong location for post :eek: Mods, can this get moved to camping equipment?

I use the Zodi Extreme.... goggle it... ..

Its big enough about 4.5 gal for two showers... it can be close or away from the vehicle... it has its own burner but you could also use the camping stove to heat up water....

Its great to have during summer months in AZ and Utah.

15 gallons is a lot of water in an Outback. Recommend a Front Runner water tank or a simple Scepter 5 gallon can.

My water tank sits in front of my drawers behind rear seat. I have Land Rover Discovery II

Just did the math out:

8.3x15=124.5 lbs :Wow1:

Yeah you're right, 5-10 gallons is much more reasonable :eek:

I think I need a bigger truck!
You need a self priming pump and a couple of Scepter water cans. They are great, very well made and if you rigged it up so you could drop a feed line into one at a time, you could fill one from the other and get running water easily? At least I think that would work? You can also pick up an Eccotemp L5 propane fired on demand hot water system that works amazingly well on the trails or at camp.

There was a guy on Ebay selling them with the 12v self priming pumps for about $160.00 USD. The Scepter cans are about $30.00 each, and the ones I have are excellent!

We camped in a Forester (wife, kid, dog and me) for years. You have to be very weight conscious. I like the 3 gal jugs that REI sells. You can get two on the floor board behind the drivers seat. Keep weight low and in the middle. As far as hot (warm) water get one of those solar bags and throw it on the roof rack. You can get most of a three gallon jug in there. I don't like things attached to the vehicle, we use a canoe on occasion and sometimes you want to get a little closer to something you cant get the car to. Which will happen allot in the Subaru. Especially the outback with big overhanging booty :sombrero:

Kurt-

Thats interesting! How do you like that product?

Caleb-

I love them. I run one in my Tacoma, FJ40 and the 100 Series, all get a fair amount of use and zero problems with them in the past 8-9? years now. To be fair and up front, I am the US distributor for them however I started as a consumer and liked them enough to set up as their US dealer.
