Show off you rooftop storage containers!

I have used drybags up top in the past as well. It worked good for clothes and bedding, and since we were going through lots of trees and branches on that trip I strapped a canvas tarp over top to keep the drybags from snagging or getting torn.
Nowadays I usually use a bunch of South African ammo boxes, (the brown ones, similar to the Bundu boxes) that I got at an army surplus store. They work very well, as they are sturdy, stackable, and the shape makes them easy to strap down.

Hey where did you find these ammo boxes? Anywhere in AZ?

I got mine at various gun shows, but had to buy 1,260 rounds of 7.62 NATO to get each box. :ar15:

Recycling my old Thule box for the OzTent and camp supplies...we'll see how well it holds up off-road. I shredded my last RRT canvas cover while in Moab and have since moved away from RTT's.

Good luck.

I have a Hannibal 10' roof rack on my 110 with an RTT. The remaining space is cargo. I had been looking for a while for the perfect lockable AND lightweight container to permanently mount up there so that I always had on hand a minimal basic load. I found this aluminum military cargo box which fit PERFECTLY! For the remaining space I have a compressable military cargo net available in retail sectors as well, that has eliminated all requirements for compression straps. you just unclip one end of net, load up pelican boxes, tables, etc on rack, then reclip ends of net and pull compression rope tight. Tried and tested at a Rover off road event.

With a growing family we are having to move away from the RTT ourselves and do not yet want to make the move to a trailer. Can't wait to see what others have done.

When I load my roof rack, I put everything in AluBox Containers I bought a few years back. I have driven under heavy thunderstorms, and they keep everything dry. I would have to find something pretty amazing to buy something else. They're not sold here in Venezuela anymore but I believe Equipt1 carries them in the US. They're are simply fantastic.

Thanks for the great Alu-Box testimonial!! We do carry 5 different sizes in stock here in the US at www.equipt1.com. As you said things stay dry and safe and should last a lifetime for minimal weight!!
