side angle specifications ...

Does anybody know the side angle/slope a stock 4Runner or Tacoma is factory spec'd at?

I know both my Land Rover Discoveryand Isuzu Trooper were rated to 45-degree's - (actually 47 with the Land Rover, but they said 45) That angle is more than enough to cause severe pinchitis.

I suspect the Toyota's are similar, but would like to know so I can get to know my truck a bit better.

thanks,

Jeff

I get a severe pucker-factor at about 35 degrees. Where did you hear about a "spec" from the manufacturer? I'm sure that if they published such a thing they'd be sued first time one rolled - -

It is a relatively common stat listed: found the Trooper on Isuzu's Japanese website, the Land Rover is told to you by the dealer (they have a 38-degree slope on their test tracks) and in reviews of the FJ Cruiser it is listed with the approach and departure angles (it is 41-degrees BTW) and the Hummer H3 is listed as 40-degrees.

I've driven the Land Rover test track and it is nice knowing that side slope is well within the specs. On the trail getting that tipsy would certainly be scary, but it is nice to know the vehicle's limits.

At any rate, I'm sure the 4Runner is between 40 and 45 stock, which is certainly more than enough to make one feel uncomfortable, I would just like to know what the factory says.

Add suspension mods, lift, equipment, etc ... and the factory specs don't mean nearly as much, but it does give you a place to start.

I've never seen a published side angle stat that severe -- not that it won't handle it, but I've been at 45+ a few times in my h1 and it's a serious angle that I couldn't imagine too many stock vehicles doing (just considering my low center of gravity and wide wheelbase). Most manufacturers list the grade/sideslope abilities in %. A 45 deg would be 100% am I correct?

I know in the hummer's case the sideslope numbers (60% and 40%, as well as the 30 in fording depth) are refering to what the vehicle can do all day at gvw without starving criticle components of oil/fluids (or allowing water into the seals). I wheel alot with every make of 4x4, so I'd like to know how far other vehicles can be safely wheeled (as a conservative spotter).

Ron, I have had the mog over to about 45 degrees, I'd need to take clean underwear if I was to do it again. I would like to know the limits of the normal street trucks as I also spend a fair amount of time with them.

Like your H1 my limits are worst case numbers, 45degrees, GVW, one wheel driving, 36 inches of water etc.
