Simple Customization - California Shops?

So, we've purchases a 2006 E-350 cargo van that we'll be doing some customization with.

Our main requirement is installation of a high bubbletop (Fiberine?) and insulation/reskinning of the interior. We will probably be adding a second battery, a rubber mat, and a shelf over the cab. So, nothing particularly complicated.

To that end, we've looked here in NorCal, and the one shop we've found is a little homespun in terms of aesthetics.

SMB West in Fresno seems crazy-expensive, although the quality looks good.

We've also looked at El Kapitan in SoCal, which seems preoccupied with full conversions and shipping them overseas.

Several other shops seem to want to sell you the fully outfitted van with pre-set packages.

Help??!! Surely there are some van conversion shops in NorCal with good quality interiors, who don't insist on an entire $50K outfitting package!? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

Well, if you live in NORCAL, what about NORCAL Vans? :sombrero:

One of their conversions is in town and I see it quite a bit, while I haven't been so nosy as to crawl under it, the brief inspection looked good.

Here is their site:

That said, SMB is willing to do as much or as little as you want and I plan on doing a lot of it myself while taking some key things to SMB.

OK, to answer my own question....:sombrero:

We went with Happy Vans of San Jose. Jesse and his brother Jose were awesome - very helpful, easy to work with, and the results are really quite good.

We installed an insulated high top (with two 28" sliding windows), a 4" carpeted shelf running along the roof seam perimeter, a carpeted shelf over the cab area, a backup camera with rearview mirror monitor, insulation and vinyl panels, door shrouds, and window blinds. He also installed a really neat curtain rod that will be sturdy enough to hold a privacy curtain between the cab and the cargo area, AND suspend our wetsuits.

We're very pleased.
