Recently the guys over at Agile Off Road and I were discussing their latest conversion of an 2008 and newer Ford camper van build. The customer wanted a front bumper for added protection but didn't want anything huge, as he was trying to maintain sleek low profile look for an already large van. Not a problem... and a quick trip down the street we started to custom build a bumper that would be a perfect fit. In keeping with our tube bumper platform we came up with this design for the 2008 and newer vans named the "sleeper". This ultra tight main tube is going to give you protection while maintaining a clean look. With protection in mind on this build he also went with the upgraded the skid plate. To top it off we added a small top hoop and LED light bar.
Very similar to our other bumper build but a few settle differences that made this newer van body build fun. We will have this style bumper on our site and available for your van.

Jeremy,

I think one of these low profile builds for the 92-07 platform would be a valuable addition as well for those who don't need/want the increased vehicle length.

Great looking bumper- super clean. I would second a request for an option for the earlier vans.

Thanks guys, All it takes is one of you to take the plunge and order one.... we will custom build it similar to this style for the older model. First person to order one I will give you a 30" LED light bar for to finish it off like this one..... Who's ready?

Jeremy can you snap a few entire vehicle pics so we can see the proportionality. Side shots will be great.

Thanks

2" or 1.75? DOM? What's the wall thickness?

All the bumpers are 2" mild steel, we can custom build you one out of DOM if you would like?

This van is already long gone and headed east. We finished it late so outside pics were not really an option. Its tight to the front, main tube is about 3.5" from the grill to the outside of the tube. This bumper has a killer side profile look. You can always go tighter of course which is coming soon! It may not be what some of you are looking for but its different and "stealth" .......

What did you guys do with the stock bumper from that van? I've been looking for an 08+ chrome bumper to bolt up to my 06 E350. Do you by chance know if the bolt pattern is the same? Or even close enough to mod with adapter plates?

I'm curious as to the interest in DOM in this application. Spending 6 times the ca$h over mild steel. Is the net benefit worth it?

DOM is mild steel- are you talking about cromoly steel like 4130?

DOM stands for Drawn Over Mandrel, which is just a process that is used when forming the tube- it essentially "smooths" out the seam. Good info here: http://metalsupermarkets.com/blog/difference-between-erw-dom-and-seamless-tube/

DOM & ERW (ElectroResistance Welded) are manufacturing methods, not grades or specific alloys of steel.

I have never priced out ERW so I don't know what the price difference is, but for a bumper I would never consider anything less then DOM.
