Slight frame rub. What to do?

I am currently stock with 235/85/16 tires. At full lock to the left, the tires rub on the frame a bit. I can see where it contacts the frame on the driver's side and the patch is about an inch long (already surface rust on it). The passenger side is fine.

Is this something that can be corrected by an alignment? What options do I have? I'll try to get some pictures later.

No worry...

Mine rubs at full lock, full stuff, never been a problem. you just end up with a nice shiney spot on the frame.

that slight rust you mention indicates you are not rubbing enough :shakin:

Mines a purty shiney patch....

About all you can do is go with a lesser backspacing on the rim (3.75" - 4") or spacers.... or a smaller/narrower tire...

My 265 75's rub once in a while (my frame on the drivers side also shows a little rusty rub mark, but I don't worry about it). We'll see what happens when I get my 255 85's installed. They are narrower, so it might rub less there, but the larger diameter might mean I need to do a little cutting elsewhere. I agree with the others, a little rubbing only when you have the wheel cranked and the tire stuffing at the same time is nothing to lose sleep over.

I do periodically take a rattle-can to the rockrash on the skids, lower control arms, rear diff and sliders to keep the rust at bay, and have shot a little paint onto that rub spot on the frame once before while I was at it. But I wouldn't say that it was necessary.

Have 255's on factory alloys and have rubbing near and at full lock, couple of well polished areas on the frame. A little annoying but no problems.

Thanks for the responses. Mine rub at full lock and at level (no compression). But I'm glad it's not a big deal. With all of the frame rust issues on Tacoma's and the fact that this state pours salt on the streets like McD's seasons their fries, it worried me a bit. I do wash the undercarriage after every storm (or once a week), though.

dont worry about it. mine did the exact same thing when my tires were new. just pay attention to it and keep it covered with paint so the salt doesnt get to it and youll be fine.

what he said - Actually, once you know just how much steering wheel turn it takes to rub, you start to unconsciously drive accordingly to minimize the rub.

tanglefoot - I'm not aware of any adjustable stops - though I'd like to....
