Smallest sleepingbag...

Looking for some advice on a down sleeping bag. My main concern is size...I'd like to be able to stuff it into a coffee can sized container. I read the article in OJ so I'm up on down... I just can't seem to find any smaller bags.

Any suggestions?

They aren't down bags but one of my favorite small bags is a SnugPak Softie 3.

I used to use it with a Gore-Tex bivie bag and a poncho liner depending on the weather conditions.

Use this 3/4 length bag and pair it with a down jacket. Expensive but it weighs only 9 oz w/ an Epic shell (all but waterproof). With this setup, you get out of the tent in the morning and still have your down coat on. I'm really hoping to try one out when I have the $$.

Guys thanks for the posts! The Snugpack looks awesome.... Not so sure about the down park-job. I'm a little too claustrophobic for that. Although for ultimate efficiency that's the one!

I'm going to find a Snugpack and try that out.

Need more info...

Where are you camping?. When are you camping there?. Are you a cold or warm sleeper?. Can you live with a mummy bag or do you need extra room(like me). Your choice in bags depends on a LOT of variables.

Down is by far the best insulation ever, however, if you will be camping in a damp enviroment you will either need a special shell or something like primaloft insulation. Primaloft or other synthetics are great insulators in but they do not compress as small as down. Down compresses well but will not insulate as well if damp.

Please be more specific in your search and i will try to help out as much as i can.

If you want down, compact, and are a little claustrophobic try the Montbell UltraLight Super Stretch series. They make them for desert to arctic temps.

I have two of them and they are amazing. They stretch with you as you move and pack into something the size of a Nalgene or smaller.

Most of our camping will be in the Southeast so a warmer/moist climate is common. That's not to say we won't get out west or up north on ocasion. I do have two nice Kelty's though if it get's REALLY cold.

The idea of a pair of mummy bags doesn't scare me too much but the parka/sleeping bag does! The Mrs. and I are both warm sleepers, as in we create a lot of body heat on our own so we don't need a major bag to be comfortable. We often find in our Kelty's that we end up sweating even in cooler weather.

The montbell looks like a perfect solution! The Snugpack is light and inexpensive but the ability to stre--------------------tch is nice for someone like me... May have to save up a bit longer but I think it'll be worth it.

My secret....dont tell a soul....

Here is my warhorse. I have used this bag in my hammock down to the teens with some thick thermals and a good closed cell pad. I have also used this bag in the 60's as a comforter.

I have both the PL and the regular down large wallcreepers. The workmanship is up to par with other more expensive brands and the usefulness of the design is worth it's weight in gold. It is almost as if EXPED made this bag for hammock campers. I just DIG my wallcreeper. It compresses down to the size of a small mellon(with the use of a compressin sack).

BTW, i am not assosiated with either EXPED or moontrail.com. Im just simply a very happy customer of both.
