Snorkel for dodge ram diesel

Where there is a will......

....there is a way! I had the same problem for my Tahoe, nobody makes them for my rig so I modded a Safari Snorkel to work.

Anyway, when doing research for my build I know I saw a Dodge pickup with a homemade snorkel made out of mandrel bent exhaust tubing, 2.5 or 3 inch tube. The snorkel had been welded up and then ground down and sanded, then painted, to make it look like one continuous piece. Looked great. If I can find it, I will post it up.

Here are two Dodge trucks with snorkels that I found while playing with Google. Hope this helps.

also diesels need a lot of air flow a snorkel might be restrictive.[/QUOTE]

True, but they do make them for the ford f250 diesel and a variety of other diesels not available here.
So i thought there must be a way.

It is not a snorkel but I have seen a good dust solution. Sorry I don't have a picture.

The stock aircleaner gets air from the fender area. The air comes in between the headlight and radiator.

The solution I saw is on a truck that races in the desert and was clever. First he put some foam in the front to block the air from the front near the radiator. Then he cut a hole in the top of the fender. It is a good size hole about 6 inches x 10 inches. This hole was located right next to the airfilter. You can see the airfilter opening in the fender area directly below it. He then made a simple sheet metal scoop but mounted it backwards. The scoop was simple, like half of a cone, and riveted to the fender.

It doesn't let dust or rain in and has no restriction for power.

Sounds similiar to what Don Thuren did to his Cummins Dodge: he runs an S&B filter with the fender cut open to breathe better.

Thanks, that's the one :wings:
Check this out: (start at the last page! It's a huge thread, with lots of hijacks too)

It was a few Power Wagon guys who lit the fire under Gibson RM/Airflow Snorkels to build a snorkel for 3rd Gen Ram's. They did their development work on a Diesel, since that is about the only Ram available in Australia.
The first gasser to test it was Expeditioneer's Power Wagon.
