I'd go safari, they have proved themselves in tons of applications ( different vehicles)

have you flooded/ pushed your stock intake to the limit yet? I know I have! It sucked

One big benefit of the Safari is the install, at least as far as I've gathered. The main hole is a circle for the Safari, the factory is... more complicated.

Both are great setups. The OEM setup can get rather expensive by the time you price out all the needed components and sourcing it can be difficult too. While I've never installed an OEM 80 Snorkel onto a US spec 80, I've read through the install information (tons of chat about them on Ih8mud) and can guarantee it will take 3-4 times longer than a Safari install (which takes about an hour to install). Post some pics if you end up with the OEM snorkel :D

I'll be going safari when I do a snorkel. I have flooded my airbox multiple times. I just think the intake was placed poorly on 100 series rigs. Anyways.

The safari looks to be easier to install, you could also retrofit the factory pre-cleaner head on it if you want to. Or if you prefer the huge pre-cleaner of the factory ones.

I'm going OEM on my 70 series...just because I like the lines better than the more rounded Safari.

Having installed a Safari on several 80 series rigs....it's easy and a top notch product.

Kurt is right, the OEM holes are rectangular, and no template is included. Last time I priced out all the OEM parts, they totalled about $800 U.S.....significantly more than the Safari.

I have the safari on my 1995 80 series landcruiser. I try to stay away from deep water. But I go to a lot of dusty places and the higher intake helps esspecially if you get the pre filter. All that being said my snorkle has saved my truck twice now in deep water I didn't really want to be in. As a side benifit I noticed a smoother acceleration and a little more pep on the highway. And per my scanguage my air intake temps droped too!

On my friend's V8 powered 60 it dropped intake temps 23 degrees using the snorkel. Granted he was partially drawing air right above the exhaust manifolds before.

If I recall correctly, I've read over on mud that the OEM snorkle parts have been added to the U.S. Toyota database order system, so sourcing the parts is no longer a problem, or expensive, if you have the part numbers...which are readily available on mud. I believe I've read that it's actually cheaper than the Safari system.

That said, if/when I do mine, I also prefer the looks of the Safari set up, plus the ease of install. I wouldn't touch the OEM system with a 10 foot pole for those reasons, but in the end, there's probably little functional difference between the two set ups.
