Hey everybody,

I thought I'd introduce myself, I bought a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder LE (Platinum Edition if that matters...) this weekend. It's going to be my daily and I'll be adding some more off road capability as time goes on. I thought it might be a good idea to ask what are some of the little routine things I should be looking for? I'm almost positive the diff and transfer case fluids need to be changed. I'm not new to cars or even offroading for that matter, but it has been a while.

Anyway, here's a picture of it, stock as can be.

You will find lots of R50 love on here, so I will defer to the experts.

Looks good!

Are those wheels 17"s ?

Any mechanical questions you have will be answered on the Nissan Pathfinders Off Road Association forum. NPORA for short.
For starters I'd find out when the timing belt and water pump were last changed. If it's an Auto trans have it flushed as well.(or do it yourself)
If You live in the "RUST BELT" I'd check the strut mounts for corrosion
Unfortunately the R50 doesn't have very much aftermarket support, you kinda have to be creative. They do however make a great DD and EXpo rig. Just the right size, capable off road and smooth on road (lets face it in North America most of our expo driving is 90% pavement). They are also relatively easy to service. These vehicles have a great reliability record but do love routine service.
can't wait to see your project develop...Mines currently awaiting springs from IronMan.
welcome aboard.

I'm actually sitting at the dealer now for the strut tower recall. Fingers crossed it turns out ok. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of that forum.

Are the tires. looking? any thought to sizes for a new set?

I know a lot of tires come in 245 75R17 which is close to a 32 if you were thinking about lifting it.

What size are on it now?

They're 245/65, so right around a 30" overall right now. They're junk passenger tires so I won't miss them. I'll probably do an OME 1.75" lift a safari rack. Then down the road maybe a snorkel and lockers. I'm not trying to cross Africa just yet. lol

Very good! Yet another silver Pathy on here :)

Anyway, check out my or Stioc's build thread for some general answers and mods on the R50 platform. They're excellent-mine just took me through 115 F and severe grades, with a load, and have had no issue to speak of. Not to mention I've put 12k on it in 9 months with a lot of off roading- they're tough as nails. Enjoy!
