So thoughts on this CL ad for a 1996 LC

I have been looking for a 80 series and found this locally......still trying to get the mileage. He did say that he would not go below $3500. Again trying to get owner to provide mileage and if it had factory lockers....

Wanted to get your thoughts on this, especially the valve issue.

1996 fzj80 landcruiser - $4000 (greenwood)

clean truck, straight body. axles, trans and tcase are in great shape, air blows cold. all windows and sunroof work. has tapping sound in engine. sounds top end like a valve. previous owner says it was a valve out of adjustment. dont have time to fool with it, my loss your gain. I imagine i would trade for about anything of equal value. call or text jim with any questions . truck is driveable. i took the valve cover off to peek and lost interest. decent land cruiser

Seems a bit steep with an "unknown" problem, or potential problem. Personally, I'd either go much lower on the price, or somehow have a reputable shop do a diagnosis on it to determine what kind of bill you would be in for. (Top end rebuild? Bottom end? Simple exhaust leak? They'd all have much different costs associated. ) I'd also be wary since the ad says the current owner bought with the noise, and is now selling it. Possible he found something that was very expensive to fix?

I'd look at! These motors are not the quite power plants of today. The two 80's I've had sound off a little but run and check out just fine.
