Solitude amidst the multitudes

Did a short overnight and hike in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie this weekend. Took the Mountain Loop Highway from Granite Falls to the Bedal Basin trailhead (FS 4096). The views on the way up were great, but any decent campsite along the river was taken. So on the way up we decided to get up in the mountains a little to experience some wilderness. The road was a touch rough, but you only need moderate clearance. Found a decent campsite, and down the road a little we ran into another couple close to the trailhead with a better campsite. Set up our campsite and made a fire, ate dinner and hit the rack. Woke up early, packed up and hit the trail for the ice caves!
Big Four Ice Caves were pretty cool, a short easy hike along a well maintained trail to a snowfield where the ice caves form. This winter we had so much snow that there was only one ice cave! Did a little scrambling at the end of the hike and then headed back down. On the way back we stopped for lunch at Mongos in Snohomish, highly recommended!:smiley_drive:
