Top tip (apologies to Viz): Most leaking on camper roofs is caused when volumes of rain water pools around dodgy seals and joints on roof fans and roof vents and cable glands and starts to seep in at the weak point.
To solve this in 30 seconds (or even better, when you see the rain a-coming), simply re-park on a slight slope. Voila, no more water pooling on the roof. Leak usually stops instantly, no matter how heavy the rain. If the leak continues, park on a steeper slope or try a different direction of lean, nit.
You can gunk the roof vent up a few days later when the sun is shining and it's all dried out.
Easy. Beats trying to catch the drips in pans and buckets.
From a very wet southern Italy, cheerio.
