I'll be heading out to Toro Peak (Riverside County,CA; SOTA Ref. W6/CT-008) tomorrow to attempt my second SOTA (Summits on the Air) activation. I expect to be on the summit for about an hour; I'm shooting for 1100-1200 PST. I'll be on 146.520 FM, alternate frequency 146.550. I should have pretty good coverage of San Diego, Riverside and parts of Imperial Counties. Looking forward to some QSOs!

Congrats on the activation. Hopefully in the future you can do some HF!!! So the rest of us can hear you??? At least QRP. I have tried some QRP on HF and its fun but challenging. No doubt that during a SOTA activation its much better due to the position but its challenging none the less. The problem HF during SOTA Activations is carrying the power source up the hill.

Rigs like the Yaesu 817 is very light but is only QRP. a lot of folks like it, for the price, I'd rather spend my money on a different rig and have the choice to work QRP. Sadly the ICOM 706 MKIIG is no more, you can still find it around but maybe not for long.

Second contact:

It looks like I was Tyler's second contact this afternoon. I was in Pasadena, parked just off Sierra Madre Blvd and Hasting's Ranch. He thought that we were somewhere about 100 airmiles apart, and, lookin' at the map, that looks close.

I was on my Yaesu VX6R, with a mighty 5 watts, running out my magmount antenna on the roof of my Tacoma. His signal was readable, though somewhat choppy. We were able to get info across.

However, I think that I may have given him the wrong callsign. The correct one is Kilo India Six India Romeo Frgtwn.

Too cool! I hope he got his other QSO's as well.
You know, this activity is great to see on this site. Rare summit and zone activations are perfectly parallel to the goingz-on with this site.

I did get my 4 contacts today; just finished submitting my log on the SOTA website. Thanks to all for the interest and encouragement! Dale, I realized that I had actually written down both callsigns for you in my log today, thanks for the clarification. I'll be posting up a better report with some pictures tomorrow when I have a little more time. It was quite an adventure today!
