Source for Isuzu 4BD1 or 4BD2 with manual trans and transfer case??

Planning on using a 4BD variant in my build and was wondering how likely it would be to source an engine complete with a manual transmission and transfer case in the USA. Otherwise I can run an adapter for an NV4500

No such animal in the USA.

So, you can:

1. Buy a used truck with an engine and manual transmission and figure out how to adapt your choice of t-case. Isuzu's did not come with 4WD in the US, so there will be no transfer case with the manual trans, unless you get it from Oz.

2. There are companies that make adapters for the auto trans, not sure about the manual. Any competent 4WD shop or fab shop should be able to make an adapter for you custom, but it will take some engineering to ensure proper fit and operation. Because that transmission did not come in 4WD in the NPR, there is not going to be a 4WD tailshaft, which is the input into your transfer case.

3. If an NV4500 mates up to a 4BD1 or 2, I would suggest that route and several transfer cases are then options at that point. Make sure you fix the known issues with the 4500 before dropping it in. Call Greg at High Impact if you have questions.

I am still considering this but for my S10 instead. If I ever get around to it, I’ll probably just make an adapter plate to convert the 4b to a chevy bolt pattern and keep the transmission and t case that is in the S10 already

JJ, The issue I ran into when looking into converting a NPR using 5.9 like you have is, IIR, Cabover manuals are side shifting and pick-ups top shifting, I could not find anyone who had placed a top shifting manual in a cabover successfully.
Do Isuzu and Toyota share any bell housing bolt patterns, can you bolt up Isuzu manual using 5.9 adapter already available? Busbees say Isuzu manuals are bulletproof

I know that diesels often have SAE bellhousing patterns but I don't know much about that. Maybe there are matches out there?
My initial intent with this thread was to use a 4BD in my S10 with 4wd. You have a good point about the side shifting, that would make it more difficult to use the Isuzu trans in a pickup.
I am considering changing my NPR over at some point to a manual trans. I could use an NV4500 or 5600 and build a linkage with morse cables not unlike what is common on FWD transaxles. It would take some trial and error to get all the movements correct but it would be a fun project. Then I would have a completely mechanical drive train that I could drive even if the battery was dead by roll starting it.
