Spring Help-LC 100

So, I am going to put my order in for my OME lift on my 99 LC 100. Should I go with the heavy or mediums in the rear? Currently, I do not have an aftermarket bumper but will be pulling a 2,000 pound trailer. So, any thoughts? I have heard the ride is rough with the heavy springs in the back without a aftermarket bumper??? Also, read Shott's thread on getting the N74 shocks. Sounds like that might be the way to go...

Any thoughts and/or advice is much appreciated.

Make sure you lower your bump stops if you go with N74 shocks.

I went with heavies for the reasons that you listed. They were great when towing but a bit harsh all other times. It is a trade off/compromise.

Well, I believe I have been through them all. Currently running OME 864s. Heaviest available. I am carrying a whole bunch of weight back there though. Bumper and swing away, 45 gal fuel tank, rack, RTT, fridge, yada yada.

I had 865s on the truck for a season, and they were great for a good ride height and handling. I am putting my old set up in the classifieds this morning, if you are interested.

Cheers,

I've been through a bunch of lifts in my 80, which is similar enough to a 100 for comparison. Always choose the heavy option. Even a heavy coil spring is going to give a cadillac ride compared to any leaf spring if you were raised on those. Then, the heavy spring will always give you more options for carrying weight or towing trailers.

I would consult Slee, or Spressomon on this board for shock specifics.

Yes, only by 0.5 inches for maximum articulation. If you have 315's and a Slee Rear Bumper then I'd go to 1".

It all depends what you mainly want the shock to do MPH. For street ride and trail ride where articulation is needed then this setup cannot currently be beat. It adds 3-inches wheel travel over OME 100 shocks.

If you plan on doing Baja racing or sand jumps then there might be a different/better option. Don't know. On the trails you can't touch this for a simple bolt-on option:

Not an expert on towing.

When not towing though, your 100's ride will be stiff, jiggly and in the air if you go with constant heavies (863) without a big bumper back there. I'd stick with 866's and 20mm of trim packs and N74L. Add a bumper down the road...slap on 863's and your set.

Same here, but on a 80 series and a trailer.

Thanks for all the insights...I would love to find a good deal on a rear bumper; then I would go with heavies for sure:)

Keep in mind there are really 10+ different rear coil options for the 100 series, not that all would be appropriate or even recommended but the following are theoretical fits for the 100 Series in general:

860, 862, 863, 863J, 864, 865, 866, 868, 421, 422, 423

If your interested in comparing the specs of these coils:

Mike once you have a 'game plan' for your rear ie bumpers, racks, tents, drawers, trailers, etc. Post up some numbers (rear axle weight or mods) and I can put them into my coil calculator and help determine the 'best fit' coils for the height and load capacity you need.

In regards to the N74L rear shocks, about the only downside I can think of is the fact the N74L is not available in the new Nitrocharger Sport shocks whereas the standard 100 Series offerings (and the new firm models) are. The N74L sport replacements will be available... just not as of today.
