Standard LC80 Seats?

Hi there,
Looking for some advice from some long term LC80 owners. I am a Defender owner who's just sold up to get an 80 series Landcruiser due to health problems.
I suffer from Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis and back problems and as such I need seats that are very comfortable for long term use (Think 6-7hours driving a day max) are the standard seats in a LC80 going to be too uncomfortable and offer much back support for me or will I have to swap them out for something better?
Also are the leather ones in a VX Spec Model any better?

Also can anyone provide me with a measurement of the distance from the back of the drivers seat to the rear door with all the seats down? i.e Whats the total load-bed length with no seats other than the driver + passenger.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of discussion on seats over on ih8mud. Some love them, some hate them. There's a few people that have had both types of seats and they say the manual cloth seats are more comfortable than the leather. I have the leather that most late models US spec 80's can with. I can't decide if I like them. Some days they are comfy for many hours and some days I can't stand the 25 mile ride home from work.

Some of it may have to do with how well the cushions hold up. New cushions are still available from the factory and they apparently will make the seats nice and comfy again.

There are many very nice aftermarket seats available as well. Hope this helps a bit.

The manual seats sit ~1 inch lower and will go ~1 inch back further than the power seats. The power seats have far more adjustment than the manuals as they have motors for the base to raise, lower and tilt forward or aft, independent of the seat back, which has adjustable side bolstering and lumbar.

I like the power seats, but I wish they were cloth as here in Flagstaff, they are hotter then hell in the Summer and frozen in the Winter. I run sheep skin covers for the aforementioned reasons.

I have another set of manual brackets from a Land Cruiser and the bucket seats from my SR5 truck bolt right up. I tried them out to see if that would work and it did. The SR5 buckets from a pickup or 4Runner are very adjustable and cloth. I just need the weather to clear out a little so I can pull some at the wrecking yard. They told me there are several SR5 3.0 powered rigs out there from the C4C program.

Do you want this with the front seats as far back as they will go? I can measure mine with the power seats and my buddy's with the cloth and get back to you this afternoon.

If seat comfort, ride comfort, leg room, etc are important for your health condition, I highly recommend making the jump to the 100-series.

I've had two 80's and after a long day in them I am beat. The jacuzzi helps and then we go to dinner.

I've never come home from a long day in the 100 like that. Softer seats, suspension, whatever else...for some reason the 100 doesn't wear me out.

WHOA! BY THE WAY..............

the MAIN reason we sold the '93 to buy the '97...cloth seats. They sucked. Too low to the floor. I drove around with my knees in the air 24/7. Theyy rubbed me raw on the love handles. I needed the leather and adjustability.

ALSO NOTE: The leg room in the leather seated 80 is much less than the 100. It killed me as well until I bought a "mod" that extended it back more. Now I'm good though the guy doesn't sell them any more (that I know of).

The 100 is the comfort ticket for certain.

Em measure it with the driver seat in a comfortable driving position, Im working out can we fit a double bed in the back as its preferable to a RTT for a few reasons.

100 series are a lot more expensive in Ireland than 80's, in the region of 4-5x the 80's price. I'll have a loot at it but would prefer to get an 80 and some brand new Recaro's if I had to.

Thanks fo the advice guys I appreciate it.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Cruiser seats suck as much as Defender seats, but to say I like em....neeeeh.
Overhere (Europe) most people replace the seats in their 40 60 70 or 80 series
with German 'health' seats. They cost a fortune new but can be found for around $75 used....bargain and a really good ride, on as well as off road!

Coming from a young guy that's had one back surgery and is facing a second I will say that the electric seats in my ex 1994 80 series were very comfortable for me. I would raise them all the way up and that cured the too low for comfort that I would experience while driving my s/o's 1996 4Runner.

the cloth (Velour) seats in my 91 VX Limited suit me fine. I'm about 6'1" 180. Has adjustable side bolsters to squeeze you in for those high G corners and a power lumbar. The front of the seat is adjustable up and down- this and the other adjustments are manual. There isn't a lot of passenger room in an 80 compared to it's outside dimensions but it is still a far better 'true' Land Cruiser than a 100 series. If you want an 80 with a bit more room, look at a 105 series with the 1HZ.

Any idea where I can source those? Could collect from most of Europe.

Unanswered question you asked - IIRC the total length from the back of the drivers seat fully in it's back position (leather) to the rear hatch is about 74" on my 80 series.

I'm 5'11" tall and have a drawer system that doubles as a sleeping platform that extends from the rear hatch to the back of the drivers seat. I remove the 2nd row seats for wheeling and it's allowed me to sleep in the cruiser. For a little added wiggle room, I do move the seat forward for sleeping, but that'll give you an idea.
