Stereo for Land Rover?

Having driven my Lightweight for about 20 hours this past weekend (longest drive previous drive was just a few hours), I started to long for some tunes.

Searching around tonight and thought this poly-planar mp3 kit might make sense. Looks like I can hide the amp somewhere, mount the speakers on the bulkhead by my feet or in my center cubby and the mp3 jack and volume knobs can go on the dash. Only downside I can see is that it's white and the grille can't be removed to be painted.

I found it as cheap at $110 in a couple other places.

Any thoughts on this? Am I missing anything? Thx.

p.s. As a newbie, my apologies if there was a more appropriate category to post this.

In my SIII 88 I had mounted speakers in the of the dash. I belive they were 5 inch speakers mounted in tuppaware containers. Worked perfect. I then mounted the head unit under the dash in a radio shack plastic radio console. Worked perfect. I forget what the dash looks loike in a lightweight?
Just remember that all Land Rovers are loud and mounting the speakers as close to your ears will work the best.

Installed the poly-planar mp3 kit over the past week... I knew the Rover was loud, but you guys were right - I do have to turn the volume way up when driving just to hear it. Won't win any audio awards for the sound, but it's decent.

Mounted the waterproof amp on the side of the military tool locker under the hood. Although it's waterproof, I tried to keep it sheltered from both weather and engine heat as much as possible.

The volume control and mp3 jack can be seen below the military light switch.

Also put in a Treo cell phone holder (use pTunes to play my mp3s) near the mp3 jack.

Wanted to put the speakers someplace less obvious, but couldn't find a good location that would protect the back of the speakers from road grit, etc. Went with this option instead. Last thing to do is paint the speaker grilles green to match the interior. Grilles weren't removable so we'll see how the brush/sponge painting goes.

I think the installation turned out fairly clean, but welcome any feedback.

I bought a $89 stereo off Ebay that has a USB and SD port as well as an Mp3 port. I downloaded a ton of songs onto my 4G flash drive and just use that connected to the USB port on the stereo. I have been very pleased with it so far.

You can also find marine speakers and stereos at www.choxster.com
