Stereo receiver w backup camera recommendations

Hey all, just like the title says....looking for a double din stereo (with CarPlay), and am assuming it makes sense to install one with backup camera capability.

This is for an e350 (UJOR conversion incoming in next few months).

Ive seen a few installs with dedicated wireless (I think) backup cams (so separate from the stereo install- a whole separate screen in the cab for the camera)...and some with wired integrated cameras.

I need the camera based on my driveway parking situation plus two young kids for safety....so....any experience, suggestions, or product recommendations are appreciated!

TIA!

We have a local fella that does the surrounding police/fire department electrical unfitting, as well as our stuff. He strongly recommends not going wireless as more and more items are, and can cause frequency interruption. Consequently, he hardwires rear cameras to the head unit or even a separate screen (ie Class C camper, etc) as needed/appropriate.
Just something to consider…

Crutchfield has a great website for DIY with how-to guides and videos. Here is a quick search for a 2018 E350.

  • inputs: rear USB input, HDMI input, rear A/V input (mini), four camera inputs (including 2 high-def inputs and DRV-N520 input)

I would stay away from wireless also. I do not think you need a $1000+system. On my old van (2010 E350) I had a $200 double DIN Kenwood and worked great. I had a switch to activate the camarea with front and rear camera.
On my current van (2012 E350) I got a generic "Tesla" type double DIN ($150) and works great, but I was not able to install it flush and the large display doesn't provide much advantage so I'll stay with regular double DIN.

I recently installed a backup camera / rear view unit in my Jeep and I love it. Especially as looking in the mirror to back up is very natural, and a logical place to put the screen. I highly recommend that if you’re looking. But I also like factory tactile buttons on my stereos, not touch screens.

Installed this one in my F350 in September. It has car play and android audio (both via usb cord) and bluetooth for music and calls. Backup camera and front facing camera. Nice feature it has is that after you go from reverse to drive it automatically puts on the front camera for a few seconds. Lots of other nice features.

The wold would have at least 2 more shopping carts in it if I had that front-facing feature. I still say that 3rd cart had it coming!

That link doesn't work for me. Anyone else?

I bought this one below but haven't installed. Dual camera inputs. I plan on a front bumper camera once I have the bumper. I'm not at all sure about this brand. No experience with any of these newer, cheaper stereo brands but I thought I would give it a try.

I got an ATOTO S8 with their bird’s eye view camera (also got the wireless steering wheel controls). It's great!

Ignore the wires in the pic; I was still working on some placement.

It was all super easy to install and works way better than I expected. The system is Android-based, but has wireless CarPlay so I use that with my iPhone. All of the Android features (Wi-Fi, web browser, cameras, etc.) work fine.

The (wires) reverse camera gives a split screen of what’s behind you and an above view based on what it’s calculated since you shifted into reverse. I had a rear view mirror already installed and left that in, but the ATOTO gives such a wider view and is way easier to see.

My downside with this system has been the mic to use when on calls. People say it sounds like I’m underwater sometimes. This might have more to do with all of the ******** bouncing around in the back of my van when I’m on dirt/gravel roads. I’m looking for a better mic, but for now just putting the speakerphone on my iPhone works fine.

I recently got ATOTO’s dash cam, some blind spot cameras, and a front park sensor system that will all work with the S8. All this info is making me feel like I should update my build post. I’d love to answer any questions you have about installing electronics. Really immersed in this right now!
