Figured I would toss in a quick thread on something that has worked quite well for us. We have a 2015 Frontier and a 2016 JKU. After daytime highs of around 116F and no shade for parking a couple of years ago, we noticed that both vehicles had gotten the dreaded "sticky dash".
There are two types of this, from what I understand - hard plastic trim that starts oozing constituent chemicals on account of age/heat, and soft-feel or rubberized parts (whether on top of the dash, or on knobs and such) that start breaking down. We had the first type - all interior hard plastic parts but especially stuff up front like the top of the dash and A-pillar trim became varying degrees of tacky to the touch.
Lots of internet searching. There are some dash repair products mostly focused on soft-feel trim... not what I needed. But I saw some mention on Subaru forums of using Chemical Guys VRP with success.
- It worked, at least for us. Non-tacky to the touch for over 2 years.
- We had some serious heat in the desert this summer after moving, so it's just barely getting tacky in the worst areas again. I will re-apply in the spring.
- It will leave the interior parts shiny and slipperier than snot for 2-3 weeks. Smell is sorta pleasant though. After a few weeks it will go back to normal with a dry appearance. Apply carefully and don't get it on headliners, carpets, etc.
- I hear a lot of bad things about their other products, but that's someone else's problem. I'm super happy with this one specific product.
