Subaru as "adventure mobile"

I had 2003 Forester manual for 4 years. Drove it up to 160K miles. It was fun car, roomy, good handling. It was super fun in snow, I was driving with all big SUVs (Tahoes, Jeeps, etc.) when we had really bad storms. As far as reliability - it never let me standing on a highway but lots of little stuff needed attention. Our previous Toyota had much less problems. We bought it with leaking intake at 70K miles, leaking HG that eventually started to eat coolant at 140K miles and I replaced it. The big plus is a Subarus forum - they have DIY for every single thing. We sold it with 160K miles because it got louder, lots of tire and wind noise, the clutch was original and I knew it is coming soon, and I think the rear brakes didn't brake - the shoes were like brand new :). So I got a lexus gs400 with V8 engine, super quite and comfortable on the asphalt, but I am stuck on every small piece of ice :).

I did it and will be doing it again

i had a JK, lifted on 33s. Ive gone the same places in a 2009 outback with 3" of lift and slightly larger tires, with better gas mileage and more comfort.

ILl be getting a forester and doing the same. I can put the same money in a subaru i did in my jeep (4 or 5k) and have a super capable machine.

IMG_0069.jpgMy 2010, with a Primitive Racing 1 1/2" lift, Yoko Geolanders. I have had numerous people take a second look, even die hard offroaders. I mostly drive my Grand Cherokee these days, but really like this car still. One of my kids may inherit it.

These do make very good Expedition Vehicles.

Continually surprised at the ability of my subaru to get places. It's fun showing up to places where everyone else is driving a lifted AWD costing twice as much.

If you can pick a good line, and get some skidplates, they are surprisingly capable. My biggest complaint is the poor approach angles.

Yup,

It's like a scrappy little dog. What it lacks in size it makes up for in willingness.
