Ran into Tim that day. There were some major washouts on the north end of the loop on the shelf roads. On one my tail actually slid off and my rear driver tire was hanging off the edge. I almost wet myself. Further up there was another bad one that I didn't actually even want to try. But I spent a little bit of time digging the passenger side down and filling in the washout. Then I threw on my seat belt and just gunned it. My nerves were on edge the rest of the trip.

Cool Tim! After doing Phoenix area trails since 1995 I still haven't been to Sunflower mine...
Its a great and usually easy one. It was the first trail I took my stock 4runner on when I bought it. The rain has done a number to it, but its still not too bad and the mine structures are amazing!

Hey Seth! There you are! YIKES! I should have asked for your radio channel or cell number! Even though we were headed out as you went in it could have helped if you were in trouble. Doh. Sorry about that.

Looks like a nice trip. Very cool pics! You're right - those couple of pics look wierd and not real. Very cool.

Thanks SWR! I love seeing historical sights. I'm perusing the internet and talking to folks about more historical sights that I might be able to visit. Adding that to a trip adds so much. Especially when you can SEE it. I'm a visual learner so I need to see it. :coffeedrink:

Thanks Jamie!
People are at least partly neanderthal... We need to clean up after that part of the population...;)

I love this trail. The mines are in such great shape, and it's pretty close to the valley. I can never gather the guts to pass that first shelf, tho.

The one with a bypass around it?

No, the one after the mines and the rocky wash "challenge". I didn't think there was a bypass, there's a rocky ledge on the drivers side and a steep embankment on the passengers side that goes down into the wash. Maybe there is a bypass that I'm not aware of...

I guess I'll be forced to go again and find out, darn. :)

Next time for sure!
Deal. As soon as the 4runner is moving again.

Purple People Eater,
Okay, thats a different one. I don't think there is a bypass around that one. One thing is for sure, those roads are getting pretty washed out. Next time a shovel and time for a bit of trail care may be needed. :peepwall:
