SW Idaho Adventures

This trip was the Winter Wonderland VII outing, but also a trip to verify most of the second half of Leg 1 of the West East Idaho Overland Route. We didn't run into much snow, but we did find a lot of mud. Ride along with us as we hit the Owyhee High Desert in search of adventure. What do we find? Come along with us and find out.

This trip was the Lava Roads expedition, but also a trip to verify most of the second half of Leg 2 and most of Leg 3 of the West East Idaho Overland Route (WEIOR). A big portion of this video is running through the Bennett Hills north of Gooding, Idaho and then into the Lava Flows North of Twin Falls, Idaho. Most of this trip was new roads for me and even I did not know what to expect. What did we see? Well ride along with us and find out. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Found a few pictures of my old XJ (green and white were both the same builds seeing how I swapped everything over, I do miss the white one more though) and that rear shelf I made. It was an awesome rig, I made just about everything on it except the sliders. It was on 33s with 4:56s, locked front and rear, 4:1 tcase, 5 speed manual. It freaking went every where and still handled the highway ok at 70. Fuel range sucked but I swapped a ZJ gas tank which gave me an extra 5 gallons. Unfortunately for the shelf I never really took specific photos of it, but you get the idea. I like my builds kind of scrappy but dialed in mechanically.

Have you gotten the other Jeep back on the road after the fire incident?Stonyford 6-24-11 058.jpeg2012-09-16_18-10-45_937.jpeg20130714_161418.jpeg20140404_183514.jpeg20160408_120540.jpeg

Nice! Yes, something about the earlier body style I like better. More utilitarian. Some cool places there.

I have not got the '77 up and running yet. I have to replace the wiring and then start to bolt everything back together. A lot of work left but hope to at least get it started next year again. I just got the new hood on it last weekend.

Thanks for sharing! George.

It would be cool to see that Jeep going again! I have a Tacoma that I daily drive/use to explore with but I really miss having an old project. I’ll probably get another project rig in the next year or two. I feel like what ever I use to buy for 2-3k is now 10k.

Not sure where you are located, but still can find some good deals around here. I try to keep my eyes out for interesting vehicles, and I have been surprised at what comes up.

I live in the Treasure Valley, sometimes I find decent deals. I guess it depends how picky you are. These aren’t cheap per se but I was surprised that 4th generation 4Runners and Land Cruiser 100s aren’t insane. I’ve found plenty of good deals under 10k but that’s not exactly pocket change for me. Part of me wants to build something weird like an old Geo Tracker or First generation Ford Explorer.

Yeah, if I did not already have too many projects, I find the old Suzuki Sidekick or XL7 to be attractive. A 4 door of course. I have seen some real good low milage deals out there...
