SWB vs LWB Pajero (Gen2)

Thirty-Nine

I just bought a '92 SWB Pajero (2.5TD). I'm looking at adding larger tires, and understand 33s will fit fairly easily, even without a lift. However, nearly everyone I've read that has said this had a LWB Pajero/Montero. Are there any differences in the SWB vs. the LWB Gen2 in terms of wheel/tire fitment?

No difference other than wheelbase, fender openings are the same size, but stick with 33x10.50 on stock wheels.

Thanks for the info—much appreciated.

Unfortunately, the tires I want, Yokohama Geolandar M/T G005, don't come in the 33x10.50. They come in 33x12.50, 32x11.50, and a host of 16s including 235/85/16, 265/75/16, and 285/75/16. Hmm ...

I just imported a 92 swb 2.5 as well and may be getting another shortly. I purchased the third Montero that came into the U.S. in 1984 and three subsequent Montero’s since then. My wife’s daily is a 98 we’ve owned since new. My import came with the 5 spoke Detroit 16”x8” rims and 265/70/16 tires with lots of tread but some 14 years old and pretty cracked. I could see they were rubbing in the front a bit but not bad. I have a set of 15”’ and 17” rims along with the 16” and can’t decide. Right now I am leaning towards 235/85/16 or 245/75/17 as this will be my daily driver. As I recall you picked yours up in TX and drove back to Portland?
