Wow, that looks very nicely done. I like the double shear and the way the gate swings in tight against the upright post.

However the first think I thought was "He covered his taillights". Perhaps the photos make it look worse than it is, but they look to be at least partially obscured especially when seen from an angle. For instance in the last photo your left taillight is completely obscured.

What was the final cost after steel, hardware etc. What are the specs of the steel harware you used. have you tested the amount of weight you can place on it until it starts to show weakness? with the square style of how its made it looks like there could be room to put jerry cans, water cans, extra lighting etc.

One (well, three, really) recommendations:

Use longer bolts--There should be 2 to 3 threads showing beyond the nuts.

Use nyloc nuts, castellated nuts (with cotter pin) or safety wire nuts so they won't fall off while you drive down the road.

Install the bolts facing down so that if the nuts fall off, the bolts don't fall out too.

Otherwise, it looks beefy enough to hold up!

The latch end can't really be seen in any of the pics. What did you do for a latching mechanism?

You might want to think about adding some auxillery brake lights.

Johnny-Law might view your rack as obstructing the stock tail lamps. For example, in your second pic there, you cant see the lens at all.
