synthetic drain time?

Hey all, I did my first mod last week, switched over to synthetic engine oil, I know not a mod but it sounds good anyway. My question is how long do you all leave your oil before you change it, I put in amsoil which is rated for one year or 40,000km (26,000miles I think?) which seems crazy to me. I talked to the dealership and they said toyota does not have anything in writing that deals with synthetic oil drain times and to go by the oil manufacturers recomondation. What do you think, stick to regular service intervals or go by oil manufacturers recomondation? Thanks for your input.

I use Amsoil and still follow the recommended service intervals with Toyota (8,000 km). I like Amsoil because I can be late and not worry about it... like I am right now. I probably have closer to 10k on this oil and it still looks and smells clean. Not sure about the taste though...:hehe:

Mountainpete, so do you use the standard toyota oil filter or do you use the amsoil filter, I'm trying the new ansoil filter but its a bit smaller than the stock filter and it to is rated 40k but is big bucks for a filter.

I don't run Amsoil (probably should), I run M1 at about 10k+ intervals (once a year). I get an oil analysis about every other year and all TBN is good and particulates are very low.

At the recommended drain interval, send in a little sample for analysis to like Blackstone, and see how it's doing, that'll tell you spot on. ...wait if you're on warranty then you may have to change just to CYA.

I run an Amsoil filter in my BMW motorbike, but just a standard Toyota one in the truck. Personally, I can't justify the extra expense for the truck.

While the Toyota filters are actually a very good quality, if I was doing longer change intervals I would probably use the Amsoil filter...
