I ordered it from Wil at Sierra Expeditions and he sent it to a shipping point in Montana where I picked it up. As the trip I was on was almost 2 weeks in the USA, I ended up having to pay almost no duty on it. Plus, I got to use it on that trip.

Contact Wil about shipping. He's really good with shipping directly to Canada as well.

Great review!

As we are going through the great debate on RTT in our house this tent and the Camping Labs RTT are the two that we always come back to. Spend the big bux and get the T-top or go a little more conservative and go for the great Camping labs product.

One issue that concerns me is your comments on the holes by the hinge and at the bottom of the door. Are these completely open to the elements? Is there no zipper for a screen on the doors? What about bug control? You mentioned the fly letting little bugs in... Is that into the tent. Seems completely unacceptable to me on a very expensive tent?

I have never seen the tent in person so I was hoping you could clarify.

Thanks

Pete: Thanks for this write up, it pushed me to purchase the 1400 t-top for my Tacoma. I LOVE THIS TENT!

The Dude: SPEND THE EXTRA CASH FOR THE EZI-AWN T-TOP!! (or find a used one) I had the same dilemma and I'm happy every time I camp that I bought it. Having the versatility to put up the walls and have a wall tent is priceless! The quality is unmatched.

Note: My tent had the velcro at both doors to seal the tent, the hinge seals up nicely also, I think these are recent improvements that you may not find on an older used model but it is easily fixed.

The screen, This is VERY high quality durable material. (Imagine a mesh that could slow a bear or lion down) A finer mesh would stop no see-ums, but it wouldn't hold up for life like this type of screen does. - The answer? spray a bug repellent on the screen. The little bugs can't just fly through the screen, they have to land first and then crawl through, a repellent keeps them from doing so.:)

Will at Sierra expeditions is great, I bought mine slightly used from Paul At Equipt1 who is also top notch.

Oh btw Pete, it looks like you got your awning poles mixed up in the first pic. The long ones are for the doors, and the short ones for the windows. I only noticed because thats exactly what I did the first time I set mine up!!:coffeedrink:

What brand is your topper and does it support the weight of the tent and you by its self? or do you have additional supports? I very interested a setup just like this

Old thread :)

The topper is made by Range Rider out of Summerland BC. Similar to Leer or ARE, just cheaper for us Canadians. I have since added a third rack crossbar, but otherwise running the exact same system. No additional supports in the canopy. Zero issues, even with 500 lbs plus the tent up there.

If you are ever in Calgary just ping me. Happy to give you a tour.

Pete
