T3-C rear mount spare

Hi all

picked up a t3-c and the spare is mounted on tongue which puts a lot of weight on the tongue and makes it hard for one person To move. Was working in garage at weekend and through a ball hitch in the rear receiver and just hung thespare on there. Balance was fantastic and super easy to move.

anyone know a way to mount the spare externally in rear that isn’t going to make it a real pain to open tailgate?

thanks

Couple things: Your trailer with the spare on the back is easy to move by hand because you reduced your tongue weight. That isn't necessarily good as you can make it too light. The general rule of thumb is 10-15% total weight on the tongue. Obviously that is easily adjusted by how you manage your cargo, just be advised that heavy stuff really needs to go forward with a spare in the back. Getting it weighed at the truck scales can help.

Are you running big tires or the little stockers? I think if I had the bias ply skinny stockers it would be clever to use a tire hoist from a Tacoma or something and carry it up underneath. Otherwise, the next bet might be some kind of swing away tire carrier like you might see on a Jeep and they often employ a trailer spindle and bearings as a single point hinge. All that is adding even more weight to the rear however.

Overly complex Broverlander move: mount the tire securely to the tailgate and install linear actuators to raise and lower the gate under power. Massive solar system to power it as well.

all good points. Guess I could leave it where it is and hook up 50lb kettle bell to rear when I want to move it.

My first trailer and RTT and not sure what or how I'm going to load yet (biggest challenge is a weather proof (and hopefully secure) cover.

Gonna buy some Go jacks knock offs to help move around garage
