I kinda like the arctic looking trucks... I wonder how well it articulates, and how well the front CV's hold up.

It must be rough on the vehicles to run in artic-like environments, period. I wonder how much extra maintenance and repair is required to keep them going each year.

After living in Alaska for over three years I still do not understand all of the special requirements to successfully maintain a vehicle in the far North. Just as starters you use thin synthetic oil in EVERYTHING - diffs, tranny, motor, turn signal fluid etc. Most of the trucks have heaters on the motor and transmission that plug in at night to keep everything somewhat free moving. Older trucks have electric radiator blankets too. Diesel trucks even have fuel warmers in tank and along the rail.

Then of course there is the maze of steel bars linking the buildings to protect the workers from Polar Bears, - but that is another story....

Yeah - constant super cold temps are a real hardship to anything mechanical. Imagine the tolerance swing for a motor that starts at -40 then warms up to 195 only to rapidly cool again! Craziness I tell ya...

Well...I'll let them tell ya :D Here's a pgf from an email exchange from a couple weeks back, regarding their red 05 Tacos from the magnetic North Pole expedition:

It is running the AT405. There are no problems with these parts that you mention. The car has factory front suspension with different springs, dampers, and some reinforcements.

They are really nice and really helpful :).
