Tag Heuer Odyssey of Pioneers RTW drive

Here's more evidence that overland travel is HOT, from the perspective
of advertising executives.

Timepiece maker Tag Heuer is teaming with Tesla Motors to sponsor
the "Odyssey of Pioneers," a 24,000 mile round-the-world drive. During
the eight months of driving, the traveling group will visit 15 cities, including

Basel, Switzerland
Monte Carlo, Monaco
Milan, Italy,
Budapest, Hungary
Warsaw, Poland
Moscow, Russia
Delhi, India
Beijing and Shanghai, China
Tokyo, Japan
Los Angeles, Miami and New York City, USA
London, England
Paris, France

The Tesla Roadster has a range of about 200 miles between charges.
It will be interesting to see how this limitation is addressed. I assume
that the tour will include support vehicles. (Read: trucks filled with
mechanics and spare parts). I'm also interested to learn what modifications
are made to the vehicle to prepare it for the rough roads of central
Asia. And what route will they follow from Delhi to Beijing?

The web site for the trip is http://odyssey.tagheuer.com

Excelsior!
Hi Haven,

It is always interesting to see that companies will spend some corporate dough on outdoor activities. What sort of vehicle do you offroad with and where do you like to go? I could not readily find any of your trip reports.

Haven

thanks for another great report!

Here's another team that has a similar ambition project

Looking at the route, I have no idea how they will get across Africa (especially Kenya/Ethiopia/Sudan) - I guess it depends on the range they have. It will be interesting to follow.

My guess is that the Tag Heuer group will fly from Moscow to Delhi,
from Delhi to Beijing, from Shanghai to Los Angeles, and from NYC to
London. There's not enough time in their schedule to drive. Too bad!
