Tasteful input needed

OK below is a pic of the Tacoma as she sits right now. Since I bought it on Monday I have: Put on 235/85/16 BFG AT's, tinted the windows, painted the bottom skid plate black, removed all of the exterior badges, and installed an Odyssey 2150 ($ouch$) reactor. I am thinking very seriously about having the fender flares Rhino lined black - to give it more of an expedition look and less of a kitchen appliance look. Good idea? I do not have Photoshop etc to test the waters, but I think it will look OK. I will have a smooth finish so as to keep it easy to clean. Your input is appreciated as I can have an appointment tomorrow to do this...

I kinda think its a cleaner look to paint the wheels black or in my opinion gun metal. Once you get a front bumper thats black it wont look like a refridgerator anymore. my $.02 cents.

P.S. you should be able to search the net and see what some of the bas model new tacomas look like with the black over fenders.

Bed liner on the body tends to get ugly fast. The UV works it and it gets a haze to it that traps dirt. It will be a nonstop pour on the armorall at that point to keep it looking ok.

Personally I like what it looks like stock and wouldn't mess with it till they take some trail rash. Then I might concider a satin black.

Personally I'm not sensitive to form. As a retired engineer I constantly fought with our marketing/sales people in product design. Every engineer will tell you "Form follows Function" meaning make it work before you cosmetic it up.
In other words in my opinion it looks fine. Spend your funds on functional equipment i.e. heavy duty front bumper, sliders, camping gear, communications, directional equipment, lighting and best of all...TRIPS!
It's going to look great once it gets set up. You have chosen an awesome little machine to have. Enjoy!

Doesn't the Sport model come with black flares? I have seen some running around town. Does make the truck look a little meaner. Instead of Rhino-liner type material. Maybe just paint them. Are they fiberglass or some other material? On my '99 they are fiberglass and painted a semi-matte finish.

I would change it, yes, form does follow function, but ya gotta look cool too!

Hafta break up the Stay Puff Marshmallow look...

Look what I found for you...

I would do it after your flares are all scratched up. That'll give you time to really decide you don't like the white flares.

Also, I PMed you regarding the Odyssey 2150. :)

Thanks Kermit! That is the look I am after! How good would that truck look with a lift and an ARB???

I'd leave it as it is. I don't care for fender flares in the first place, they are simply a functional thing to cover the tires. I think they look cheap and tacked on, then to draw attention to them by making them a different color. Different strokes, just my $0.02.

I agree that the black flares improve the look, but as stated, I would shy away from the Rhino. I am very displeased with the fading mine has in a short time. There are better products out there that are as durable as Rhino, but look and stay looking much nicer.

holding...

I have canceled my appointment and will wait to see what the factory pieces cost. Maybe I will hold off indefinitely. I do need to save my money for suspension bits...

Thank for the input. I think....

What are the new Tacoma fender flares made of? I haven't been close to one to check. I would assume they are a rubberize material.

Like everything else, it is all about personal opinion, if we were all alike wouldn't this place be very boring?

Black fenders flares are my vote, the color coded ones just look weird to me.

If you are really sure you dig the look, post up on TTORA or yotatech or somewhere to see if someone with a white base model wants to swap.

Or maybe even just walk up to the next white base taco you see and ask. Some may prefer the smooth look but just couldn't afford the pricier model. Worth a shot. And could land you the merchandise for free (maybe shipping).

My thoughts,

Your truck looks nice as does mine we both have painted to match flares. I wouldn't paint mine because they look good as they are, now I would paint the inset of them to keep the white from being dirty all the time. I did consider painting the bumper to match. My brother painted him 02 taco's fenders with bed liner and they look like crap. I painted my rock sliders with bed liner and oh yep they look like crap too, the material holds up well but they look like crap, unlike the sliders you can make your pretty with armor all or Griots vinyl, rubber treatment. I know the tough look you are going for I can picture it. With an ARB it would be a good look because the color would flow down the truck. Or you could paint the ARB white, a thought perhaps? So now am I for or against? I guess 2 points for it and only 1 point against.

Go for it!!
