Temporarily removing second row seats?

CSG

I pulled out my jump seats soon after I bought the rig. I always wanted to camp out of it and be able to sleep inside but with the second row seats tumbled forward I have 60" to the tailgate. At 6', I *could* survive a night, maybe two. I looked at those tailgate tents for about $150 but I don't know. I can leave the tailgate down and magnet a tarp around the back end but again, meh. It would be great to be able to remove and reinstall the driver's side second row seat but I'm having trouble finding out how to do it. Anyone have a link or tell me what's involved?

Thanks for any help!

Im assuming you're wanting to do this on your lx? If so when you fold the seat forward you will need to remove the plastic covers on the hinges. A small screw driver will be your friend. There you will find 2 bolts per hinge, remove those and voila.

I recently had the seats out of my 05

Not on the Land Cruiser, but on a Range Rover classic we used to have I trade the bolts for some really short "studs" (Soft locktyde) they stick out about 12mm and then used some small nylon knobs with a brass nut, they never fail and it took me about 2 minutes, actually about 100 seconds (the inside the car time) to reinstall the seats (the holes/hinges where index it, they slide right in with little practice, the nuts take seconds to spin two at the time..

Sounds like doing it as a temporary measure would be a PITA. I'll either sleep *short* with the seats tumbled forward or try and figure out a simple 30-35" wide platform that can be tossed in when camping solo.

Buy an FJ60. When you fold the rear seat, it makes a perfectly flat, carpeted platform that is long enough for a 6' person to sleep on. ;)

Always liked those old FJ60s but I'm not interested in owning one. I like the everyday comforts of the the 100s a lot more.

I just removed mine for a recent trip. Took me 10 minutes to remove, 10 minutes to install back with the help of a friend and it was definitely worth the extra room. Super easy job, don't know why you wouldn't do it.

Good to hear. I'll certainly try it at least once. Honestly, just removing the double seat would be more than enough room for me as a solo.
