The Highly Anticipated Merger Between Nissan and Honda Looks to Be coming Apart

You might want to hold off buying that new Frontier or Rogue for a bit longer…

“Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Nissan is expected to withdraw from merger talks with Honda over the companies' failure to come to an agreement on terms.

Last month, the two Japanese automotive leaders announced a plan to begin merger negotiations that would have made it one of the world's leaders in the industry.”

Now, several Asian Press sources are reporting that Nissan plans to withdraw from the merger memorandum that would have created the world's third-largest automaker had it gone forward.

Unfortunately, this fractured relationship doesn’t bode well for Nissan considering Nissan lost 90% of its net profits last from April to September and reported it planned to cut 9,000 jobs globally and slash production by 20%!

I was honestly surprised Honda would even want to do such a thing. I really saw zero up side for them other than removal of a competitor, that wasn't really a competitor. So to me, this news isn't too terrible.

Honda sales are off pretty good in the USA and globally in 2024 about -15% from 2023, I don't really understand how Nissan (-4% from 2023) could help that.
