The Ugly Duckling - 1985 Jeep CJ10 Project

For sale is a 1985 CJ10 (formerly CJ10A military aircraft tug) project vehicle. This is probably the nicest CJ10 cab you'll probably ever find. It was mounted to a J10 Gladiator chassis and is titled and currently registered non-op'ed in California. The CJ10A originally came with a Nissan diesel, so the title correctly shows 'Fuel Type - D' (diesel) which makes it smog exempt in California under the current laws.

The Jeep is a rolling chassis with no running gear installed. I have been acquiring parts for it and currently have a good Mercedes OM606 engine core (Diesel 6 cylinder, 24 valve, naturally aspirated, mechanical pump) and a good 6 speed manual transmission core from a JK jeep (Daimler/Chrysler NSG370). Using the front case half from a Mercedes C230 manual (not sourced yet, but readily available), this transmission will bolt up to the OM606. The OM606 makes around 150 h.p. naturally aspirated and is one of the best Diesel engines that Mercedes made. The chassis has leaf springs from BJ's Off-road.

The jeep is available either with the engine/trans or without. I would like to sell the package and think that it would be an awesome overland jeep with the Mercedes diesel powertrain. The vehicle is located in Northern California in the Grass Valley area. I am asking $5000 with the engine and transmission or $4000 without. (The front wheels and tires pictured are borrowed and are not included in the sale).
