Thinking of building/in the planning stages of a build….

I’d like to build an overlanding/off-road trailer here in the next few months, similar to something that is offered by the likes of turtleback or patriot campers. My original plan was to build something to tow behind my Cherokee, and my partners outback, somewhere in the 5-6’ long by 3.5-4’ wide range. However, we recently rented a 50” wide 2 seat SXS and she enjoyed that wayyyy more. We’ve been discussing building a trailer similar to that with either a rack on top or a flatbed behind it. Anyone done this and had it moderately off-roadable and had enough room for the toy too??

I would probably look into buying a 6x12 or 5x10 enclosed trailer with leaf springs. You could put in a couple of windows a fold down bed and still be able to haul the SxS. You could flip the axle and probably be able to fit 31s or 32s. Put a couple of 100 watt solar panels on the roof, a 100 Ah battery, ARB fridge and awning on the side.

No matter whereyou go, build the trailer as wide as the tow vehicle so it is visible in bith rear view mirrors. That will make reversing, maneuvering soo much easier. The 4.0L Cherokee has way more towing ability than a Subaru..... with a SxS, tent and camping gear you'd be best to use the Cherokee.
