What is the value of a 1993 HDJ80 with triple lockers, auto, 200K, has been US DOT legalized through a registered importer as well. Imported from the France. Just don't know if the 35K:Wow1: he is asking is worth it. Any ideas?

"Worth it" from what metric?

There are a lot of other rigs you could buy for $35K, some newer, more capable, fewer miles, etc.
But they wouldn't be HDJ80s, would they?

I couldn't see spending that

Since it is an import, is it at least diesel? That would make the price a little more reasonable.

Sounds like this one was able to sneak in before the true 25 year import and hence the seller can ask far more than most would envision paying... and may get it too. As for whether or not it is worth it, all perspective. If one were to buy a clean FJ/FZJ80, convert it to diesel using a half-cut HDJ (or even HZJ), you could easily hit a similar number by the time it is said and done. One could do the work themselves and be into it half that amount but you can't compare buying to building as this rig is ready to head out on adventure tomorrow... not in a couple of years.

As for the HDJ80, I've motored around in a few... pretty dang cool but not a rocket ship either. Obviously they are going to feel peppier than a US spec 3FE/1FZFE powered setup and have a far better fuel range as well.

It is a lot of money for a truck of that age, but really, what could you buy for 35K in the US that could do what a tripple locked 80-series/Turbo Diesel could do???

I think it's quite steep, BUT it's one of a kind and pretty much the best overland truck you're likely to find. That said, I'd guess you could BUILD one for quite a bit less, BUT it won't be a factory truck... YMMV, but if I had the cash and could comfortably drop it n a truck, I might just do it. Luckily I'm solving my Diesel desire, but this certainly got my attention.

Cheers

Dave
