Thoughts on using an old Freezer/ Reefer truck for a conversion?

Occasionally I see some reefer trucks and vans go cheap on craigslist. I was wondering if anyone has tried to use one as a camper before.

My thoughts are they already have a solid frame and are insulated.

My thoughts are to take something like this:

And turn it into something like this:

Obviously these two vehicles are super far off, but the hard shell square body in the back is the inspiration. Using it as a base/frame work to make a living space.

Thoughts??

I'd say its all about the chassis of the vehicle. What access to parts for the chassis will you have, what engine does it run. Modifications are the name of the game.

I didn't even notice it at first but that spare tire is actually recessed into the camper... how cool! Someone correct me if i'm wrong but that must be a fiberglass build no? Mula Mula $$$

At this point I'm more concerned with the camper portion. As much as I'd like to have a vehicle capable of crossing the desert, I don't need it.

Im really looking for something that can handle some occasional light off roading to get to hard to reach surf spots and up service roads. But, for the most part, I'll be spending a lot of time on pavement.

Im more wondering if the shell of a truck like that would make a good frame work to build a living space without having to gut it and re-insulate.

Id be looking to make an extended roof and cabover.

Having a finished box is great for a custom build. The tricky part is finding something that will fit the truck you are putting it on.
