Hello! Been reading the forums for a while now. I have a 97 E-350 EB Quigley (nicknamed Tiny Boomer, the wife thinks she's driving a submarine ) diesel that I have been rebuilding for about a year now. Here's what I have done and where I'm at with it now:
replaced some bad injectors that leaked fuel into oil which led to bent pushrods - sad day
replaced all exhaust valves in heads
replaced failed turbo
replaced all glowplugs and 100k tuneup
rebuilt failed tranny
rebuilt most of the front end
new tires
new fluids all round
I ripped out the entire interior from driver seats back which was moldy and rotten due to leaky windows. I haul materials with this van so I plan on building the interior with cabinets spaced so I can still get a 4x8 sheet of plywood in back.
I have many questions but foremost on my mind is the body buildup. The windows still leak a bit in back and I would rather have no glass for a camper/tools security. I got a quote for 3k plus another 2-4k salvage panel body to swap it over. A lot of money I don't have So here it is...
I plan on using this truck for work/camping here in Alaska. I want to remove the glass and install some fiberglass or metal panels. Is this feasible?
I would get some 1/4 marine ply and glass it over and paint. Might be cheaper than having metal panels cut... I was going to paint the inside of the windows black and insulate over them but that wont help the leaks. Somebody glued them in so getting them out in one piece may not happen. I appreciate any suggestions.
