Tire choice for a continental slide

a weird question I am having difficulty answering right now.
I have 2 set of tires for my Jeep XJ.
A set of 235/75/15 BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A
and
A set of Uniroyal Tiger Paw Ice/Snow

Which set would you rather have on the car for a cross continent trip from Montreal to Texas to Colorado to California to Vancouver?

The Uniroyals have great rain, snow and mud traction. I ould think they would offer the better overall performance.
I will most likely throw them away by the end of the trip as the May Texas Roads will melt them bald probably.

Will I be risking some offroad capability if I switch to the Long Trails? they are ideally a highway tire with long milage(harder rubber)

I rather sell them both and get AllTerrain T/As but they are just way too pricy in Montreal. $151/tire + tax(15%, yea canada!)

I would take the Long Trails as well. I ran those for years on my last vehicle and was always happy with the way they performed in a variety of conditions.

I bought the jeep in november. I havent got a first hand experience with the BFGs yet.
Any specific reason why youd choose them over the Uniroyals?
Unis have a more aggressive/pronounced tread pattern. I will be trying to stay offthe main roads as much as i possibly can.

I will throw the bfgs on this week and give them a try . Not very warm here yet. And montreal potholes ate nothing short of MOAB obstacles at times. Will be a fair test :)

It sounds like you are going to be doing the type of driving that an AT tire is best suited for. They are good at nothing and bad at nothing. If you take the snow tires you will have a tire that is great in the snow and bad at everything else.

Because the Uniroyals are crap and there are thousands of us who have many miles with the BFG's. Do some research.

You know, it took me a few years to be able to say "I don't know".
I used to know it all and go headfirst into things. It worked out well for some stuff, but now that I am responsible more than just myself, I ask questions.
I have done research. and the truth is, there is not enough information out there to find out if my snow tires will do better in offroad conditions than the BFGs.
In theory, they will do better as they are grippier over rocks, have more agressive tread pattern and handle the wet stuff very well.

But my logic is flawed to do many variables.
Currently I have 8 tires on rims. And I can only take 5 with me. I am not returning to Montreal anytime soon. My life is being packed in my jeep and coming with me wherever I end up at.

I wish I could just drop it all and go buy a set of 5 BFG AllTerrains. But I can't.
I will install the long trails on the truck this weekend and give them a bit of a work out. Maybe the gods will smile upon me and help me get a set of allterrains next week.

Thank you all for the helps

If you weren't so far up in the cold north I'm sure one of us could find you a good used set of the A/T's, I haven't had to buy a new set in years. I have always ran the A/T's for street/camping/winter tires since I bought my first Jeep back in 1999, and have a set of the BFG KM2's I swap in for our trips to Moab and other trail runs. I have also ran 2 sets of the G-Force Sport tires on our MX5. Once I find a good used set of 265/75 BFG A/T's for our Chevy diesel they will replace the Yokohama tires on it currently. So I guess you can say we like BFG's.
