Tire Swing Out?

Idea I had that may or may not have been made already. Has anyone seen a tire swing out that does not replace the stock bumper, and I am not talking about those cheesy reciever mounted ones. I saw a stock bronco driving down the road the other day and they somehow manage to have a gate with a stock bumper, so why cant we do it on a tacoma. If anyone knows of something out there, or knows how I can do this let me know.

They do it by mounting the swinger to the body. Which tears up the body if the truck is used off road very much. When the FS & NPS Rangers had big Broncos they carried the spares inside. I suspect for this reason.

There is no reason that it couldn't be done if structure inside of, and under the body was built. I built something similar, though fixed. I call it my "Pro-Farm" tire carrier. The pic below isn't the best, but it is the only one that I have of it online. I built some considerable structure under the bed to spread the load out. So far it appears to be a success. It sits at an angle so the it clears my shell.

Just because you saw it once doesn't mean it's a good idea.. Swing out tire carriers shouldn't be half-assed.. I would bet that the one you saw was a backyard abortion.. But that's just my opinion. There's a ******** ton of stresses when you put the weight of a tire, and other stuff like Hilifts, fuel cans and so on... It's better to over engineer something like a swingout than to not put much thought into it. I've been on the trail when a fullsize Blazer broke the entire swingout off because the bearing failed.. What do you do when your swingout just fell off the back? Talk about an inconvenience..

This is pretty spendy... CLICK HERE

But it is there...

I think the main reason people build a new bumper with their swingout is to increase protection there is quite a bit of overhang and if you get in a tight situation rocks can easily tag the sheet metal. I don't see the point of building a swingout without increasing protection. but that is just my opinion.
