TJ's and trailers

I was wondering what kind of trailers you all have/are using. I am currently trying to decide weather or not to use a trailer for my upcomming trip. I was also wondering how much of a diffrence in mileage you all were getting while pulling the trailer vs not having one.

Converted Jet Ski frame with 33's Maybe 1000 pounds altogether. NOT real areodynamic, with trailer in tow gas stops every 2.5 hours.

4spd auto, 5.13s 33s and an M416 with about 800lbs in it I got 13 one way and about 11 coming back (mostly due to a strong headwind)

Pulling this little trailer(home made), weighing somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500lbs max, works ever living snot out of the TJ. That Jeep was a 4.0, Auto, 4.56's, and 35" ProComps. It took my mileage from 11, down to 6-8 when running 70mph. Mileage improved as speed decreased. Pulling mountain passes was miserable as well.

I know lots of people do it, but you have to be very patient, and make sure your auto(if you have one) is well cooled.

5 speed, 5.13 gears, 37" tires. I an usually pull 15mpg on the highway, with the trailer it was 13. With all my gear it probably 800-1000lbs. 3 days and 1100 miles later, I decided I hate pulling a trailer.

You certainly got a lot of negative feedback.

I do not have a TJ, I have a CJ-7, but heck, mine has never had any problems going over the mountains with my trailer back there. The thing goes just as good with or without. I do not keep track of the fuel "economy" because jeeps just do not get any, so why bother. (Plus the Previous Owner swapped out the tank for a larger one but never swapped the guage, so I have NO idea how much gas I actually have in there when I fill it up.)

You just have to ignore the gas factor when possible, and enjoy all of the extra goodies you can hual. the coffee maker, large ice chest, comfortable chairs. Adult beverages.........:sombrero:

I really like my TJ/Trailer set up. Lots of room for mostly flying solo. I am out all the time and have pulled it thru all kinds of terrian. I have about a 270 mile range without and get close to 225 with the AT Horizon trailer fully loaded. The TJ is a 6 speed with the 4.OL. I keep it pretty close to the posted Ca. trailer speed limit which is 55. I think that makes the difference.
