TMax Winch???

I have been shopping around for a winch for my taco. I already planed to get a Ramsey RE8000. When looking for pricing I stumbled a crossed the TMax Winch.

Does anyone have experience using this winch? If so, how well did it hold up?

I know that the two winches are night and day, with the Ramsey I am looking at being a worm gear and the TMax a planetary gear. But the number of teeth on the main drive gears is greater than Super Winch and it has what looks to be the largest motor at of all the winches I have seen.

I'll let you in on a little secret.

Summit rebadges and sells the T-Max winches under the Summit name. They make no other changes, other than covering up the T-Max logos with Summit Stickers. They sell the 9,000lb one for $449.95 + $6 for shipping + $10.95 handling charge.

I've got buddies who wheel who run all kinds of different winches. I think the T-max rivals the Thermo Warns in terms of speed, reliability and pulling power. And I've seen nothing like the Thermo series Warns!

I have a T-max EW-9000 that was produced in their "old" facility. They have done some re-design work on the control box (a good thing). I have a several thousand feet worth of hard pulls on mine (which I used as a test mule a couple years ago), which is probably alot more than most winches will ever have.

The speed is a bit lower than the Warn M-8000. It runs cool, quiet and smooth. Full load amp draw pushes 550 amps, primarily due to voltage sag caused by overloading the stock charging system on my wrangler. If I was able to maintain a full 12.6v, the amp draw would have been lower (BTW, this is true for any electric winch, if the voltage drops, the amperage will rise...quickly!). The winch has been used in every condition I could find (rain, snow, 100*+, submerged in river crossings, coastal salt air, mud, rocks, you name it). It has had 2 problems. The switch in the remote had one set of contacts fail (repaired in the field), and I broke the brake assembly (repaired at home after tearing the winch down and getting repair parts shipped out). It still resides on the front of my jeep, and is working fine.

IF you go with T-Max stay with the outback's or integrated winches. I have heard of some soleniod issues with the HD models (& Summit). The Boomer Box is very nice, and integrated wireless feature is very nice. My T-max EW-9000-WC is in the garage awaiting a bumper!

I bought a 9000 outback for $600 shipped on ebay. I love it very strong but have not had the chance to be really stuck and have a make it or break it condition. I was hesitant at 1st and still have my doubts but well see how it pans out. I know electric mile markers, harbor freight, are yuck. I have only used warn in the past and hope the T-max makes me happy. I just couldnt justify near $1k for a new 9000lb. Warn

Wil,

Do you know if that model bolt into an ARB?

I also hear that it's been more waterproofed then other models... is that true?

As soon as my bumper gets done I will put it to the test and put a review up on it. The mounting bolt pattern is the same on almost all winches, T-Max Included. Clocking it seems to be pretty standard, just no direct directions like Warn, and the size is the same as the EW-9000W. I know a few guys are running them with an ARB over on TTORA, but they are using the EW-9000 model.

I am not too sure... The BoomerBox that came with the EW-9000WCP is definitely a lot better, in fact it is actually hard to take apart because of the water-tightness. I plan on sealing it will silicone prior to my install to be on the safe side.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I will have to get myself one of these units. I like what I have read about them.

I think China... Designed in OZ, built in China.

That is correct. When I was doing some testing for them, they were just wrapping up construction of their new facility in China.

I was looking at those along with all the other brands and decided on the Warn M8000. I prefer one manufactured in the USA and it has such a good reputation I felt I could not go wrong. 4Wheel Parts sells them for $525, 100' cable and roller fairlead, and $20 shipping or just pick it up at the nearest store. Just another option for you.
