The past couple of months have seen several groups traveling to the South Pole. Expeditions 7 recently drove to the Pole in specially prepared monster trucks. And a British group skied 200 miles to the Pole. A pair of explorers is walking to the Pole, commemorating the Scott Expedition of 1913.
Now there's word of a Welsh endurance athlete, Maria Leijerstam, attempting to pedal a recumbent trike to the Pole. Her attempt is self-supported, but the folks from Arctic Trucks are nearby, monitoring her progress.
