top mods for the price

Kind of got this idea from another board.

What are your top cheap mods, the best bang for the buck type deal. Bolt on, fab, or off the shelf parts/accessories/tricks.

Cheap and good?... these days it seems hard to find things that fall into both of those categories.

I'd have to say that my shovel must be one of the hardest-working, yet most inexpensive pieces of equipment I have.

Also, my TB came with essentially two mufflers. I hacked one of those off for free, which gave it a nice sound... but provided no function.

Lastly... my Hella Micro DE fog lights are one of my favorite mods... I use them ALL the time! Not overly expensive either. :snorkel:

The basics if used to their full potential... The ever present High lift Jack. It can Jack, Winch, Pry, Hammer, and even be driven into the ground for a winch anchor. all for about $70.00. That and JB weld is all I need to wheel. :ylsmoke:

I've seen completely stock trucks with lock-rights, aggressive tires and a good driver embarrass over the top built machines on 38"+ tires.

It wasn't the cheapest thing I've done to my truck but adding a locker in the rear completly transformed it. The best cheap mod was replacing the weatherstripping on my toolbox. I didn't know until I replaced it that the toolbox was the source of 95% of my truck's squeaks and rattles and that all it needed was new weatherstripping.

I'm not sure I could pin down one favorite, but I really like my cheap driving lights - one year and still going strong, 110k candlepower and less than $50 to make both

Guess I'll add mine

HF compressor (and a tire repair kit). Had it a year now and works great, cost me $50 for the compressor and about $15 for the repair kit.

x vission tap light. Paid $10-15 for mine, great for working on rigs in the dark (or where its hard to see) and has a magnetic base.

upgraded my XJ's headlights to HID. Make sure you always replace your wiring harness and bulb housing otherwise it's pointless. But being able to see where I'm going is pretty darn helpful!

I'll echo several recommendations here about modifications that I'd readily do again:

1) ARB Locker--huge improvement in traction
2) Tires--quality tires pay you back in performance
3) Tire repair tools/ kit.

While the first two aren't considered "cheap"; I would consider these as being some of the highest in value.

Good mods, but the most bang for the buck that I have got cost me about $25, which was my storage system I built to store all the crap that gets me out of the jams I get into!

In it, I keep tools, fluids, food, full trauma kit, JB Weld, straps, tire repair kit, 4 ton come-a-long, bivy, dual battery setup, camel back, hiking boots, iodine, zip ties, twine, highlift accessories, winch accessories, and an emergency bottle of Jack on road trips! :ylsmoke:

Other mods have helped get me out there. This mod has allowed me to get back of something breaks.
