It depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for "Maps" to go into the GPS or desktop software to create tracks/waypoints/routes that you can download to the GPS?

For Maps, I believe you are limited to 3 options:
- Garmin Mapsource Topo
- Garmin Mapsource National Parks (parks only, but higher resolution)
- Wanderlust Mapping http://www.2ridetheworld.com/wanderlust_page.htm

For creating tracks/waypoints/routes you have all kinds of possibilities:
- OziExplorer
- National Geographic Topo
- Delorme Topo USA
- Fugawi
etc

A couple months back my son purchased a Garmin 76S. I was (still am) considering purchasing the G60CSX and figured i'd spring for the Garmin Topo 2008 since i didn't have any software. I think for the $ spent on the software i'm more than happy with the info/detail provided. I'm not looking for any hard core stuff just enough info to help out with locating the county fire and land-management trails/roads and so far this software has been adequate.

I do think if i was going to back a notebook along i'd go for the OziExplorer software written about elsewhere here at ExP forums. Very nice it seems and i like the option of viewing in 3d.
