Towing with a Warn bumper

Has anyone been using their Warn tire carrier/bumper for towing? I'm hoping to get by towing a 1400lb trailer without another reciever. Vehicle is a 2005 Unlimited. The way it's braced to the frame it looks strong enough to me. Anyone tried and had one fail?

Disclaimer: I know the bumper says "for vehicle recovery only" on it. That's not what I'm asking.

My cousin has the warn tire carrier/bumper on his 02 Jeep and towed a couple of seadoos from Socal to Laughlin, Nevada and back with no issues :smiley_drive:. The seadoos probably weighed about 900lbs each. I did tell him he was brave and he did bug me all the way back trying to get me to trade off and tow them with my truck.

I am not entirely familiar with the Warn bumper so this is more along the lines of "How I did it" advice.

Frame tie ins are critical due to the flimsy rear crossmember. If you have those with the Warn, you are part way home. The other point is to make sure that the receiver frenched into the bumper is adequately braced internally behind the face of the bumper. I ended up triangulating the bottom of the reciever back to the bumper on my Currie for extra support to keep the receiver tube from rotating. I tow a Horizon that probably tips the scales at 1700lbs fully loaded. No isses here with a little precautionary work to ensure safety.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Guess I'll brace the reciever tube, wire it for lights and call it good.
