Toyota Expedition Van

Ok so in January I plan to start building an expedition vehicle. I'm a toyota man at heart so I'm sticking to my guns with that. I just can't decide on what exactly to buy. I've been looking into Landcruiser troop carriers although in NZ they are quite scarce and expensive. Hiace 4WD vans are a lot more common and cheap and reliable but they have IFS and so lack front ground clearance. Another idea is a Dyna van as these are very roomy and solid. They seem to be based on landcruiser mechanicals so parts should be common. The problem is they only came in 2WD. However toyota also made a 4x4 Dyna Truck which I believe I could swap the parts over from.
Any thoughts of why I should or shouldn't go for any of these?

Well, I can t help you on specifics, but a 4x4 Toyota van oh-so many years ago got me hooked on the 4x4 van thing. Good luck!

I notice Oz seems to import some of the older 4x4 Campers from Japan, is that not the same as NZ...?

They're starting to become popular in the UK too, meaning we can now pick up things like this 4WD Hiace for less than £10k.

They also do a 4x4 Hilux version with the cabover bed if you need a bit more ground clearance.

Although if you do want to build one from scratch, then buying a ready made one is a bit pointless.
